Associate Professor, Lighting Design
Allen Hahn has designed lighting for opera companies large and small in the US and Europe, with recent highlights this summer in Portland, Oregon and in 2023 at Santa Fe Opera. He designed for and toured extensively in the US and abroad with choreographer Donald Byrd, and the Obie Award–winning theater company The Builders Association. In the fall of 2024, he co-designed the lighting for The Builders’ most recent work, Atlas Drugged: Tools for Tomorrow, a satire about AI and the search for a perfect Presidential candidate.
In Bloomington he has designed for Constellation, The Jacobs School’s opera program, and plays, musicals and dance works for this, his home department. His dance for camera work Breath Light Stone with Elizabeth Shea won awards in multiple categories and enjoyed a three-year run in dance film festivals in the US and internationally,
He would like to dedicate this work to the memory of his friend, IU faculty member Margaret Dolinsky.
